Boycott Barnes and Noble

Story time. In a couple of weeks I am going to have surgery. (Yay vasectomy) Because of this, I will be taking a week off of work. I figured this would be a great time to do some reading. I have been interested in the Middle East conflict for a while, and a friend recommended a history book on the subject. I looked on Barnes and Noble’s website and saw the book available new for $50. While I was looking around the site I saw the Harry Potter collection for $50 as well. I liked the movies and someone suggested I read the books too. I wasn’t intending on buying the Harry Potter books yet, but for the setup of this story, just know that it’s $50 online.

The book store didn’t open until 9am, but I got off work at 7am. So I grabbed some hot chocolate and read a Dumas ebook on my phone for two hours. I got to the store and perused the history section. After not finding the book I wanted, I consulted with the staff, who told me that they didn’t have it on stock. Did they offer to order it? No. I had to ask if they could order it, to which they said that it would be easier (on them I assume) for me to just order it online and have it shipped to my place.

Not wanting my two hour wait to be a total waste, I decided to get the Harry Potter collection, because I figured I would read them eventually anyway, and there is the chance I wouldn’t get my history book in time. After looking through the 452345234 different “teen” or “young novels” or “sci/fi” sections and not finding it, I again consulted with the staff. *See sub rant below.

To my dismay and making me look like a moron, they quickly showed me to the big fucking “Harry Potter” table of nothing but Harry Potter items and a huge poster. I soon found the collection I wanted, and brought it to the counter only to be confronted with a $95 plus tax price tag.

“$95?” I asked, “On your website it’s listed for $50.”

“That’s the online price,” the employee replied, coldly and with no soul.

I then asked her to honor the online price FROM THEIR OWN FUCKING SITE. Nope. They “don’t do that”. So I shrugged my shoulder and left. As soon as I got home I went to Amazon instead of Barnes and Noble and got the history book I wanted for $40 ($10 less than Barnes and Noble’s web price) with no shipping.

So I encourage all of you to boycott the bastards at Barnes and Noble who clearly don’t want to help you and treat you like you are inconveniencing them. Take your business elsewhere, like your private book store or online. Just not the Barnes and Noble website because they suck cocks.

*Sub rant

Seriously. Have you been to a book store lately? There used to be very simple sections. History, Science Fiction, Fiction, Non Fiction, Art, etc. Now each section is broken down into a million sub sections. “History” is now “World History” “Modern History” “US History” etc. The Civil War has it’s own sub section. Sadly this makes it even harder to find what you are looking for. Is a book about Iraq “Modern” or “World” or “War” History? There literally is a section for “War History.”

My name is Chris. I currently live in Seattle, though I’m formerly from California. I'm a writer, comic, and superhero (allegedly). I complain. A lot. About everything. I also tell jokes.
