    The Lunacy That is Language

For the love of the Great Keanu, can we please streamline language? I’m not sure if all languages are like this, but in English based languages, it is absurd to the point of illogical incomprehensibility. I love language. I love the ability of being able to convey concepts and thoughts and identity to others, and that they can understand the gestures and verbal sounds we utter. Even that is limited, though. Over the eons, our languages have evolved. I mean that literally, as they have changed slowly over time. Our modern American (which I maintain is a cousin to, but not the same as, English) evolved from Olde English (mixed with Spanish and…

    Voluntary Sterilization

I just finished reading an article titled, “Why Can’t I Get Sterilised In My 20s?” Wait. Shouldn’t it be “steriliZed”? Anyway. It reminded me of the frustration I faced when I tried to get a vasectomy. While most of this rant will be about my story, I did want to address a few things I found in Ms. Brockwell’s article.

Celebrity Nude Leaks / Victim Blaming

I didn’t have enough material for a rant, so I picked a few related topics, and am combining them. Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably heard of The Fappening and/or The Snappening, where a ton of celebrity iCloud accounts and a ton of SnapChat files were hacked. Most healthy people would decry this as the invasion of privacy that it is. Oddly, there are a surprisingly high number of people who blame the victims.

    Mother’s Day and Father’s Day

I don’t celebrate holidays. I know they exist. I just don’t care about them. I know that Halloween is the last day of October. I know that Thanksgiving is in November. I know that Christmas is December 25th, and I know that New Years is January 1st. But when it comes to Labor Day or Memorial Day, or Mother’s or Father’s Days, or Birthdays, I don’t really pay attention. The only reason I know they’re upon us, is when I see a bunch of Facebook posts.

    Biography: J. Edgar Hoover

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Some of you don’t recognize this name. Those of you who do will have very polarized opinions of him. J. Edgar Hoover was one of the most powerful people in the country, yet he wasn’t the President, Vice President, or a Supreme Court Justice. He ran the FBI… for almost 50 years. During that time he was either a creative detective, or the beginning of the end of privacy (depending on how you view it). Many of the NSA issues in the news lately, could largely be attributed, or at least inspired by, J. Edgar Hoover.

    Burden of Proof (In Detail)

I don’t mean to beat the proverbial dead horse, but I want to explain in more detail what the Burden of Proof (BoP) is, and why it matters. Every opinion or belief has a reason, even if you’re not aware of it. You may be right, but if you can’t prove it, its not justified. The BoP is a way of getting people to believe you. Now, if you don’t care if someone believes you, then fine. You can skip reading this. But, if you do want people to believe you, then this is the best way to do it.

    Personal Awareness

By request, I’m going to complain about people who just seem out of it. You know, the type that don’t seem to know where they are or who do things that don’t make sense in their current situation. The analogy suggested to me was people who honk in traffic jams.

    Reminiscing About My Grandparents

Recently, I found out that one of my grandfathers had had a stroke and was in a coma. I thought it would be nice to post some fond memories of my grandparents before it’s too late. Plus it’s a nice change from my constant complaining. This will be phrased in the past tense, not because they are dead, but because these are memories.

Interview: An Experience with Bipolar Disorder

Today, I’m finally introducing a new (and hopefully recurring) feature: interviews. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but haven’t been able to make it work. After tossing around a few topic ideas, I ended up picking psychology which is one of my passions, and has been for a long time. I wanted to hear someone else’s experiences. I could easily talk about what my life is like, but it’s boring. I have an attachment disorder and all that means is that it’s almost impossible for me to feel close to people.

    Biography: Alexandre Dumas

In my opinion, Alexandre Dumas is one of the best authors of all time. It’s not just because he wrote my favorite story, The Count of Monte Cristo. It’s not that he looked like a morbidly obese Mark Twain. It’s not because he lived a rapper’s lifestyle. It’s because he found a way to make history interesting by making it the backdrop of his adventures. That and his style of prose.
