Review: Sterling-Scott ties

I am known for my tie knots. I always wear my neck ties with crazy knots. I’ve got an entire album on my Facebook page dedicated to them. A year ago, I heard of a new type of tie, called the Sterling-Scott. When I first saw them, I thought, wow, these are expensive. But I still had to have one. So I bought two. Then a few months later, I loved them so much, that I bought two more.

They are double sided, usually silk. One side has a pattern, the other side is a solid color. They are a lot wider than a normal neck tie. The default knot is basically a variation of the four in hand knot. As with any tie, though, you can tie it a few different ways. But you do have to keep in mind that the tie is wider, so you might not be able to do some knots.

Plus, they are individually numbered. So it’s easy to tell if you have a real one or a fake. They come in a cute little box, with ribbons and everything. I placed two orders, and each one came with a hand written note from the creator. It’s a nice touch.

I’m not sure if these are hand sewn, or not. I’m also not sure how many of each tie he makes. So I’m not sure how limited they are. I do know that many of the ties I would have gotten were already sold out. He has a list of owners, and while that hasn’t been updated in a long time, and doesn’t include me, based on that list, I’m the third person in all of Washington State to own one. And I have four.

They come in three tiers. The Green level is the entry level. They run ~$100. Then you’ve got the Black level, which runs up to $400. Then you have the super duper Double Black level which is $2500. The four I have, are all Green levels. Don’t think of them as the “cheap ones” however, because even if they are the least expensive, they are still a million times better than your regular ties.

I have the Brady Bunch o’ Fun, which took me a while to like. It’s almost blindingly 70s. That’s just not my style. But over time, I did come to enjoy it.

Next, I’ve got the Cosmo-Politan, which is my current favorite, and the one in the large picture at the top.

12049394_10153297763064888_7822918730705708247_nI have the Amethyst Bloom 2. This was my favorite of the first batch.

Lastly, for now, I have the Night Flower Rain. The only downside to this one, is that the reverse color is black. It’s so dark, so you can’t do many knots with it, or if you do, you can’t see them very well. But other than that, this would be my favorite tie.

So should you get one? If you’ve got the money and want to make a statement. I can tell you that I get lots of compliments for them. They definitely stand out, and you’ll get attention. The price point may make them seem extravagant, and if you just need a tie, I would suggest starting with a normal tie. I, on the other hand, am known for my ties, so it made perfect sense to buy them. At the very least, you should go visit their page and take a look at what they offer.
