Judging People

I tend to think of myself as smugly superior. Smugly superior for judging people based on their personalities, not their looks, I mean. Oops. Forgot to add that clarification. Anyway, it occurs to me, that it might not be as good as it sounds.

Let’s be honest here. I’m still judging you. Does it matter if it’s based on your character and not your looks? Would anyone say, “at least he called me ‘stupid’ and not ‘ugly'”?

Don’t get me wrong. Judging and criticizing people is my version of “breathing”, I’m just saying that for the rest of you that don’t want to offend other people, I don’t see that much of a moral higher ground here. How many times have you heard people say that they want to be hired for their brains, not their brawns? What’s the difference? Both are part of you. Why is one deemed better than the other? Maybe it’s because I have never experienced the opportunity “looks” can provide, I just don’t understand the difference.

Its like how it’s acceptable to say a woman has a cute face or nice eyes, but if you say she has a nice rack, then you’re being sexist. Really? How is that? How is one body part more offensive than another? Who decides that? What if I were to decide that the left thumb were more attractive than the right thumb? I’m still judging you based on your looks. Or, more accurately, judging you based on MY OPINION on your looks.

Back on topic, though, judging someone is universally thought to be negative, yet everyone does it. For whatever reason, we have decided that doing it based on appearance is bad but on intelligence is good. Hell, that makes up 90% of the content on this site. Is it because one is genetic and the other environmental? Does that give someone, whom we’ll call the Victim, a sense of control? Thus they would rather be judged on their brain because they worked for it, rather than their looks which were given to them?

Does it matter if it’s a positive judgement rather than a negative judgement? Why do people get upset when you call them “hot” instead of “smart”? Would someone ever say, “calling me an ‘idiot’ was bad, but calling me ‘fat’ was flat out mean.”

Isn’t it all judgmental though? Pardon the pun. Get it? JudgeMENTAL. Hahaha.

My name is Chris. I currently live in Seattle, though I’m formerly from California. I'm a writer, comic, and superhero (allegedly). I complain. A lot. About everything. I also tell jokes.
